Application Instructions
Personal Data - Complete all fields as specified
- School Student ID - You are not required to provide your SSN or SIN to apply but it may be required for award disbursement. Please enter the numeric or alphanumeric ID your school uses to identify you. The data must be entered without dashes (correct: 123456789; incorrect 123-45-6789). All information is used for identification purposes only and is not shared.
- Address - Provide one address where you can receive written notifications both in the month of February and May/June.
- E-mail address - Valid e-mail addresses are required. This is also your username, needed to log into your application. All correspondence to students (confirmation of submission, nomination status, etc.) is communicated via e-mail. Please provide a working e-mail address, one that you check often.
- Institution - This must be the Datatel client institution you are currently attending.
- Academic level - Choose the class level of your next academic year. Unfortunately, high school students are ineligible for this scholarship program unless taking college classes concurrently with high school.
- Expected date of graduation - Please list the month and year you expect to obtain your degree.
- Scholarship opportunities - Check the appropriate box(es) of the scholarship opportunities for which you wish to be considered. Familiarize yourself with the eligibility requirements for each scholarship type.
Essay
Please review the details for each scholarship type for specific essay guidelines. The essay should be organized and succinct. Essays should be at least 800 words, but no longer than 1,000 words. Essays are strictly limited to 1,000 words. Applicants applying for more than one scholarship should write only one essay that addresses aspects for each scholarship applied for.
The Foundation highly encourages applicants to compose essays in a separate word processing program, such as Microsoft Word, and then copy and paste it into the application. The Foundation is not responsible for any information that is lost.
Civic Involvement/Contributions
List your top three civic contributions/achievements. Summarize the event, action and/or achievement and describe why it is important or the difference it made to the community. Also indicate your level of commitment to the activity (i.e. once, occasionally, often, etc.) Each item is strictly limited to 75 words. Do not leave any fields blank.

Recommendations
Each student is required to have two recommendations submitted electronically from faculty or staff of the Datatel client institution you currently attend.
To request a recommendation, you must first log into or start the application process.You will see a short form that must be completed. You will need the email address of your recommenders. The system will then generate and send an email with detailed instructions on how and where to send the recommendation, OR you may choose to send the information yourself as laid out on the status page.
Recommendations sent by mail will NOT be accepted. It is your responsibility to ensure your recommendations are submitted by the deadline (Jan. 30, 2009, 5:00pm EST).
Transcripts/Angelfire Documentation
The Foundation no longer requires a paper transcript for nominees. Only students who have been nominated by their institution will have their current GPA entered electronicaly at the time of nomination. Transcripts mailed to the Foundation under separate cover will not be accepted. Documentation related to Angelfire nominees must be sent to the Foundation by the scholarship administrator by March 1st. Neither Datatel, nor the Datatel Scholars Foundation, nor its employees are responsible for errors committed or delays experienced by any postal or express mailing service.
Authorization
- Application Certification - All applicants must certify that all information provided on the application is correct.
- Submission - To officially have your application submitted for consideration, you must click the “Submit” button, on the second page of the application. Only complete applications (with the Essay and Achievements section completed) can be submitted. If your application was successfully transmitted, you will receive a confirmation message via e-mail. We are now offering the ability to edit/delete your application even after submission.
Status of Application
By “Logging Into Existing Application” applicants are able to:
- View & print their application
- Edit their application
- Confirm their application submission status
- Check the status of submitted recommendations
Notifications
- Nomination Notifications - Institutions will be reviewing applications and making nominations from 02/2-02/20. Expect to receive your notification of your nomination status via email by 2/20.
- Awards Status - The Datatel Scholars Foundation will be reviewing nominated student’s applications between March and mid-April. Final decisions regarding the final awarding of scholarships will be made in early May. Winners will be posted on the Foundation’s web page by 05/10/09. Notification will be sent to winners, non-winners and scholarship administrators.
