Official Rules
Eligibility
Scholarships are for the 2010/2011 academic year (including the 2011 summer sessions). Please apply only if you plan to pursue your higher education goals at a Datatel client institution during the 2010/2011 academic year. If you win a scholarship and choose not to attend a Datatel client school for the 2010-2011 academic year, you will forfeit your scholarship.
Applicants must have a 3.50 GPA or higher and be attending at least 6 credits at a college or university that uses Datatel products and maintains a current maintenance agreement (Datatel client) at the time their application is submitted. A list of current Datatel clients can be found here . Full- and part-time (at least six credit hours) students, undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. level, are eligible, as well as international students. All majors are welcome to apply.
Application
To enter the scholarship competition, applicants must complete and electronically submit the on-line application found at www.datatelscholars.org. Only on-line submissions will be accepted. Neither Datatel, nor the Datatel Scholars Foundation, nor its employees are responsible for errors in computer transmission, technical, hardware or software failures of any kind, unavailable networks, and/or computer, on-line or human errors.
Evaluation
A two-fold evaluation process is implemented. (1) Participating clients have between 2/1 - 2/19 to electronically review and evaluate applications. Clients can only nominate students who have submitted an on-line application by the deadline. Each participating client school can nominate two of their most outstanding students. (2) Only these students who have been nominated will have their applications evaluated by the Datatel Scholars Foundation review committees for final awards consideration and selection.
Students who have not been electronically nominated by their institution cannot be considered for a scholarship. Although an institution is eligible to submit nominations, some choose not to. It is the responsibility of the applicant to first check with their scholarship administrator to ensure their application will be reviewed and evaluated. The Foundation is not responsible for clients choosing not to review applications or nominate students, or clients not meeting the appropriate deadlines .
The Foundation’s review committees evaluate all nominated applicants on a scale of 100%:
- 60% personal essay statement
- 40% academic merit (GPA)
Notifications
Winners will be announced in early May and will be posted on the Datatel Scholars Foundation web page. All winners and non-winners will receive notification of their award status. Foundation staff is unable to give information as to why an applicant was not selected to win a scholarship.
Awarding
Datatel Scholars Foundation award amounts are divided into three groups based on the undergraduate tuition at the college or university the scholar attends. The highest tuition is Group A, the middle tuition is Group B, and the lowest is Group C. Each group receives the same number of scholarships and the DSF Board of Directors determines that number each year. The Foundation reserves the right to change, from year to year, the number of scholarships awarded in each category.
- Group A - $2,400
- Group B - $1,600
- Group C - $1,000
Awards are disbursed in July, and are made payable directly to the institution for deposit into the student’s account. Awards can be used for tuition, books, and other expenses categorized under "Cost of Attendance". Winners forfeit their scholarship if they transfer to a non-Datatel client institution, or drop below six credit hours in any given semester. Scholarship monies may only be used for the academic year for which it was awarded, and may not be applied towards tuition from a previous, or to a future academic year. Scholarship awards are not renewable, however a scholar may reapply for an award each year they maintain their eligibility.
